SUPERFOOD STATUS OF YERBA MATE
Yerba Mate is an ancient superfood/ superdrink originating and still grown mostly in Argentina, where Good Pantry sources it from. Drinking Yerba Mate as a source of natural energy is a smart choice. Drinking the tea awakens the mind and energizes the body with its naturally occurring caffeine, theobromine, and theophylline. Together these increase energy levels without the negative side effects of coffee.
While Yerba Mate has similar properties to Green Tea, it has a super concentration of antioxidants and contains 24 vitamins and minerals including magnesium, potassium. It has been used for its health benefits by native tribes in South America for centuries. Combined with the right diet and exercise it is often used as a slimming tea as it supports the feeling of satiety [the full feeling]. Consequently, drinking the tea can help to curb hunger in aid of eating less. Yerba mate contains vitamins, minerals, amino acids and antioxidants such as flavonoids that fight the oxidizing action of free radicals which can cause disease and early ageing.

How to drink Yerba Mate
Yerba Mate is traditionally made in a gourd and drunk through a ‘bombilla’ filter straw. While yerba mate has been enjoyed for centuries in a bombilla, it is simple to make at home. With Good Pantry loose leaves using a teapot or coffee plunger to brew your tea is simple.
Use 1T (5g) per cup and infuse with hot (not boiling) water for 3-10 minutes depending on taste.
Another way to brew Yerba Mate is to use a herbal tea infuser ball as sold here.
Yerba Mate has a slightly bittersweet flavour which is enjoyable on its own. While many enjoy the natural flavour, adding honey, lemon or mint to the tea is a good way to sweeten or flavour the tea.
For best results to aid weight loss:
- Take between meals to help curb cravings.
- Incorporate into your daily routine for a minimum of three months.
- While Yerba Mate helps with weight loss, it is especially relevant that combining with a healthy diet and an active lifestyle is essential.
